Candlelight Gathering of hope to be held for Austin Renshaw

Friends and family of Austin Renshaw invite you to attend a candlelight gathering of hope at 6pm, October 26th in the courtyard of the Maple Valley Community Center, 22010 SE 248th St.Maple Valley. This event is being held three years to the day of Austin's disappearance in the spirit of community awareness for Austin as well as other subjects of unsolved murder investigations and also, for missing persons. There may well be those in our midst with answers for these and other cases. Though, it could be, these people are unaware of the significance their information could have in solving a crime.

Crimestoppers of Puget Sound, together with friends and family of Austin Renshaw are still offering rewards totaling $10,000. Callers to Crimestoppers anonymity is insured using a very simple method. If someone calls in a tip, wishing to remain anonymous, they are assigned a pin number of their choosing. That pin number, from then on, is used to refer to the tipster. If their information leads to Austin's recovery or charges filed in his case, that same pin number is used to access reward funds in a bank account, totally anonymously. This is very powerful information and if shared and understood within our communities, could lead to resolution for Austin's and other cases. Any information please call 1-800-CRIME-13 (1-800-274-3313). Crimestoppers in affilliation with Mike Seifert and Chris Schuler from "Gomobile"(gomobileadvertising.com), will be unvieling a "Rolling Billboard" featuring Austin's case at the "Candlelight Gathering of Hope". The commitement to community displayed by these organizations coming together in their efforts to bring justice is examplary of how business and civic responsibility benefit one another in our communities.

In the early morning hours of Monday, October 27, 2003 Austin Renshaw, left home in the Maple Valley area and has not been seen or heard from since. Austins car, a 1993 Silver Chevrolet Cavalier with damage to the hood was found abandoned the next day at Chinook Middle School in Seatac, WA. Austin would be 25 years old, 6 1 tall, 160 lbs. with hazel eyes. He has a 1 1/2 x 2 tattoo of a Chinese character under his left forearm. Austin was raised in Maple Valley and was a Tahoma School district student.

Representatives from our community will include Mayor Laure Iddings, Myrle Carner of Puget Sound Crimestoppers, former city council member Chuck Hardaway and Pastor Steve Murray, from the Real Life Church, where Austin attended, who will lead the candlelight gathering in prayer for Austin as well as other unsolved cases. Candles will be provided and a depository for canned goods etc. will be provided for donations to the Maple Valley Food bank and monetary donations in Austin's name for the Maple Valley Community Center's youth services would be greatly appreciated. Also, complimentary snacks and refreshments courtesy Jeff and Shawnee Benchley and the City Hall Saloon in Cumberland.

Please come and help bring some form of closure to friends and families affected by violent crimes.

This was in 2004

The Candlelight Gathering for Austin Renshaw was incredible.

So many friends,  family and concerned citizens attended the Candlelight gathering for Austin and others murdered or missing in our area, such as Jeff "Skunkman " Thompson and Tom Bottorf..  Thanks you all who attended as well as those unable to attend for your warm thoughts and prayers.   The term "Closure" is not yet applicable in our circumstance with Austin.  We need doors to open before any real form of closure can commence.  We believe this event has helped to open some doors in our case and hopefully brought some awareness about ours and other cases to the forefront in our attempts at creating public awareness in our communities.

An important aspect of our continuing efforts to bring justice for Austin and others is to insure an understanding of the "Crimestoppper"s Pin Number Protocol" method used for callers anonymity.  This information is worth repeating and once understood,  worth sharing as well. It is as follows;  Crimestoppers of Puget Sound, together with friends and family of Austin Renshaw are offering rewards totaling $10,000. This is very powerful information and if shared and understood within our communities, could lead to resolution for his and other cases. Any information please call 1-800-CRIME-13 (1-800-274-3313). Due to loss of funding Crimestoppers is in jeopardy of closing down so any information needs to be reported immediately for funding to be released

Lew Cox,  who founded  "Victims of Violent Crimes Services " in Tacoma was the first speaker at the Candlelight Gathering. His insightful  and practical explanations of  how to help and get help when tragedy strikes provided an educational heads up for the crowd. His organization provides much needed advocacy for crime victims families who often seem forgotten and left to fend for themselves in our justice system.  Thanks Lew.  Pastor Steve Murray, from the Real Life Church, where Austin attended,  lead the candlelight gathering in prayer for Austin as well as other unsolved cases.  His inspiring words brought a call to action for those with knowledge of  crimes, that their conscience will not rest until they come forward with any information they may have.  A heartfelt thanks to Pastor Steve the congregation at the Real Life Church.  Austin's family also extends our deepest appreciated for Jessica Cagle,  who sang beautifully on "Amazing Grace" during the candle lighting as a full moon rose in the night sky.  Very inspirational. Thank you, Jessica.

Jeff and Shawnie Benchley, owners of the "City Hall Saloon" in Cumberland, deserve special mention as well. Their tireless efforts throughout the greater Maple Valley to Enumclaw area for  numerous causes are ongoing and deserve recognition  (right now they are putting together Christmas and Thanksgiving packages for needy children). They have been instrumental helping our family raise the reward fund for Austin and when  told of this event, they immediately volunteered to provide snacks etc. Our sincerest gratitude to our friends,  Jeff and Shawnie as well as the cast and crew of the "City Hall Saloon". They understand what community is all about.

Finally, We'd like to thank the wonderful folks at the Voice of the Valley.  Your willingness to help when approached with this event is an example of what it takes to galvanize our community against the threat of violence and help insure justice is served in our localities.  A safe, secure Maple Valley is achieved through communication and understanding, plus a willingness to act and "Do the right thing".  The "Voice" doesn't  shy away from civic responsibility and you are greatly appreciated.  Thank you Voice of the Valley,
